This grand 140-year–old farmhouse, which has been in the same family for four generations, has undergone a dramatic makeover.
Originally built in 1863, the extensive renovation of the Canterbury farmhouse was a labour of love for its current owners.
Many of its original interior features were retained, including the magnificent staircase and early lead-light windows.
On the ground floor is a large open-plan casual dining and living area adjacent to the Classic Country kitchen, a separate cosy lounge, a formal lounge and dining area, an office and a library,
which overlooks an enclosed courtyard with an eye-catching water feature.
The farmhouse also has a sleep-out with an en suite perfect for teenagers or guests.
Upstairs are three large bedrooms and a fully renovated family bathroom.
Insulating and heating the formerly drafty home was a high priority. During the renovation Pink® Batts ®Ultra ™ were fitted in the interior walls and ceilings, and foil was fitted under floors.
Central heating, powered by a straw- burning water heating system, was installed.
Further insulation was added when the window sashes were reconstructed to fit double–glazing for additional protection from the elements. To assist with lowering the maintenance, existing weatherboards, sills, corbels, plinths, boundary boards and facia were also replaced with James Hardie Linea® Weatherboards. One of the major advantages of Linea® is its ability to hold much darker colours.
